GEO-THERMAL SYSTEMS

Save

Save up to thousands of dollars ($) in reduced generator resistance heater electric costs with NO capital investment using Geo-Thermal’s patented Heat Pump System.

Background

Most commercial and municipal facilities are required by law to install one or more emergency generators as reliable back-up power for critical systems.  These diesel generators must be maintained at a “ready” temperature for instantaneous start performance.  Also, unwanted “cold starts” result in unnecessary engine wear that can lead to failure and possibly no start at all.

Manufacturer

Geo-Thermal’s Heat Pump, made for us by Trane, is the most efficient way to heat emergency generators. Stand-by diesel generators have traditionally been heated by resistance heaters, that have a coefficient of performance (C.O.P.) of 1.0, producing 3,413 BTU’s/hr for each kWatt of electricity consumed.  The Geo-Thermal Heat Pump has an average C.O.P. of three (3) producing 12,386 BTU’s/hr for each kW of electricity consumed.  Geo-Thermal Heat Pump users have reported power savings as high as 84% versus heating with resistance heaters.  If your generator is sized over 400 kWatts, isn’t it time you started saving with Geo-Thermal?

Efficient

Geo-Thermal’s Heat Pump is nearly nine times more efficient than standard resistance heaters.  The internal combustion engine, by nature is designed to efficiently reject the heat created during the combustion process.  This makes the simple act of maintaining the engine at a predetermined “ready” temperature, a costly exercise in contradiction.  Fighting efficiency in operating mode with efficiency in the stand-by mode, the Geo-Thermal Heat Pump can cut these costs!  The heat pump will maintain the entire engine block at the manufacturer’s recommended temperature. Yet it can offer power savings as high as 84% when compared to the same performance for resistance heaters.  These enormous savings can be attributed to the Heat Pump’s designed duty cycle.  For example, if the resistance heater must run 95% of the time to keep the generator at 100o, the Geo-Thermal Heat Pump will run approximately 34% of the time to do the same job.

No Capital Outlay

No capital cost to the end user, free installation and maintenance: We install the unit(s) and maintain them at no cost.  If there should happen to be a problem, which is rare, the original resistance heater that remains in-place takes over as a redundant back up.

Bonus

A hot item for a cool BONUS. The Geo-Thermal unit generates cool, dry air as a free by-product when the pump is operating.  Many facilities will duct this conditioned cool air into adjacent hot rooms (electric switch-overs, panel boards, VSD controls, etc) as a source of free air-conditioning.  Many even remove the existing room air-conditioners and replace them with the heat pump's cool dry air to further reduce electric and maintenance costs.  With this configuration, the facility participates in some of the installation costs.
